The first death anniversary of the charismatic leader, former prime minister and chairperson of the Pakistan Peopleís Party Benazir Bhutto Shaheed will be observed throughout the country on Saturday with great reverence and respect.

The major event of the anniversary will be held at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s mausoleum at Naudero (Larkana) where central leadership of the PPP has already reached to participate in the congregation.

President Asif Ali Zardari also reached Naudero to participate in the events. He is accompanied by Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, daughters Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, Asifa Bhutto Zardari, Sanam Bhutto, sister of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and other family members.

A large number of party workers, office-bearers and supporters from every nook and corner of the country are reaching Naudero to attend the anniversary.

Great enthusiasm is being witnessed among the people and the entire town is echoing with the PPP slogans. Various stalls have been set up where the people are purchasing posters and badges with photographs of their beloved leader. Cassettes of Benazir’s speeches and songs in her praise were also on sale.

Tents have been erected by the PPP workers and supporters, while all rooms of hotels, rest houses and guests houses of Larkana city have been booked. The Sindh government has made strict security arrangements.

Qur’aan Khwani for the departed soul of Shaheed-e-Jamhoriat will be held in all cities and towns across the country. Special programmes, walks, declamation contests and seminars have been planned to highlight the services of the Daughter of the East.

In these programmes, rich tributes will be paid to the great departed leader for her meritorious service for the nation and most particularly for giving the supreme sacrifice of her life for maintaining the national unity, solidarity, and cohesion among the people.

The electronic media will telecast special transmission to commemorate the anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in order to pay homage to the great leader.

“Zinda Hey Bibi Zinda Hey”, the slogan echoing across Garhi Khuda Buksh since early Friday morning was in consonance to the arrival of convoys of office bearers, workers and supporters of Pakistan Peoples Party that reached the town from every nook and corner of the country. As these convoys reached the limits of Larkana district, they received warm welcome from the residents of the area.

PPP office bearers, workers and supporters from Mianwali, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Faislabad, Sialkot, Sargodha and other parts of Punjab jointly led by President PPP Punjab Rana Aftab Ahmed and General Secretary Samihullah Khan was the first to arrive here this morning.

Soon after their arrival, they offered Fateha at the Mazar of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

The PPP office bearers, workers and supporters from Osta Muhammad, Dera Bugti, Xob, Turbat, Dera Murad Jamali and Dera Allahyar also arrived in a large caravan and offered Fateha at the Mazar of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

The office bearers, workers and supporters from various districts of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Khairpur, Sukkur, Naushero Feroze, Nawabshah, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Dadu, Larkana, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Sanghar and Tharparkar districts are also reaching Garhi Khuda Bukhsh in large numbers.

Many of the people arrived here from different parts of Sindh, on foot, covering long distances.

Also, a caravan of hundreds of thousands of PPP workers from the NWFP reached Garhi Khuda Bukhsh on Friday.

The caravan was led by PPP NWFP chief and Senior NWFP Minister Rahimdad Khan, all of PPP provincial ministers, federal ministers Arbab Alamgir Khan and Najumuddin Khan. The buses were full to the capacity and decorated with life size portraits of Benazir Bhutto inscribed with slogans and party flags.
