LAHORE: Pakistan?s eight-member delegation led by Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir Friday returned to the country via Wagah border.
?We have told India that talks for the sake of talks are meaningless,? Foreign Secretary Basir told reporters at Wagah Border.
Bashir said India wants to hold talks on petty issues, while Pakistan is keen on resumption of composite dialogue process.
The top diplomat said that he held wide-ranging discussions with his Indian counterpart Nirupama Rao. ?I also held meetings with Indian Foreign Minister S. M. Krishna and Indian National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon,? he told media.
The foreign secretary said Pakistan focus was on Kashmir, water and other outstanding issues, while India had not issue to discuss except terrorism.
He said talks is the only way forward, for which high-level dialogue has been proposed to India. The resumption of composite dialogue will pave the way for bridging the trust deficit facing the two countries, said the foreign secretary.
?Terrorism is a global challenge and its responsibility should not be put entirely on Pakistan,? we have clearly told India. He further said that the composite dialogue should not be held hostage to terrorism.
Pakistani leadership and people want better ties with India, said Bashir, adding that ball in now in Indian court. India should consider these issues with open mind, he said.
To a question about US role in talks, he refused to comment.
